We have converted a typical Swiss postal bus into a fully functional radio studio!
From 20th July to 12th August, during the London 2012 Olympic Games, the International Radio Festival (IRF), together with MX3, will take seat in London and launch its Olympic Pop-Up Edition, presenting listeners with a taste of the very best Swiss and British radio stations together with their presenters, and featuring artists, bands, festivals, and leading nightlife brands, including daily news from the House of Switzerland’s events.

The pop-up edition will present a varied 24/7 on-air listening experience as unique as the 2012 Olympic Games itself, whilst also building an acoustic cultural bridge between the two nations long standing friendship.
Following on from the success of the International Radio Festival (IRF) in 2011, the Festival has been invited by Presence Switzerland at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA, to participate in the “House of Switzerland”, the official Swiss hospitality centre during the Olympic Games.
The IRF will be located midst the House of Switzerland at Glaziers Hall alongside the Thames by London Bridge SE1, where traditional as well as surprising and creative aspects of Switzerland will be showcased – so come on down and see for yourself!
The IRF will also act as a “lifestyle -hub” interviewing Swiss athletes, leading public figures, celebrities and opinion leaders from the world of music and fashion, offering an insight to their musical tastes, their opinions about the Games and its host city London.
During its three week “London pop-up residency” at the House of Switzerland, the IRF will produce its exciting Anglo-Swiss programme live on-air from inside a typical Swiss Postal Bus, broadcasting on London’s first temporary DAB frequency, across the Olympic city, and online around the world.
The IRF radio programme will be innovative and interactive, and will be presented in English, German & French and will offer listeners:
- The best Swiss & British urban music
- Interviews with special national and international guests and athletes
- Report on events as they happen at the House of Switzerland
- Feature live concerts directly from the House of Switzerland’s outdoor stage
- Club nights featuring leading Swiss and UK DJs and artists
- Insight to life in London; its styles, opinions, fashions, and views of the Olympics by visitors and locals alike
- Presenting leading music events from Switzerland and the UK, such as the Street Parade, Montreux Jazz Festival and CampBestival.
Take a leaf through our special publication “Passport to Swiss Music” to find out more about our speakers, daily programme and much more.
And for those visiting the House of Switzerland during this period, the IRF offers a unique and rare “over the shoulder” experience to watch and experience in person how some of the UK’s and Switzerland’s leading artists produce their music radio shows – only at the International Radio Festival at the House of Switzerland UK 2012 in London this summer, 20th July to 12th August 2012.
Founders of the IRF, Miguel Alvarez & Darryl von Däniken, said: “We are really excited to be bringing Londoners a taste of Switzerland with special showcases of both Swiss and British music radio shows, festivals, bands, personalities, athletes and celebrities. We welcome the opportunity of being able to broadcast across the Olympic city of London.”
