The IRF was announced as a finalist for the first annual British-Swiss Business Awards. The IRF was nominated in the category of Most Promising New Business / Entrepreneur along with Avaloq UK and Grant Thornton Geneva. Other finalists of the Awards include stellar organizations such as British Airways, Deloitte, HSBC Private Bank, among others.
15 of the most innovative and successful public and private sector companies in the British-Swiss business communities are being recognised for the outstanding contributions they have made towards bilateral trade and investment between the UK and Switzerland.

“When evaluating the entries in the British-Swiss Business Awards, the nominations committee was struck by the creativity and passion displayed by the entrants displayed across all five Awards categories. In some cases, solutions are being provided to world-class companies in both the UK and Switzerland; in others, the personal experience of recently arrived expats has led to a burgeoning business concept. Given the challenges of the current economic climate, we are delighted to reward the efforts of such companies through our Awards programme and to raise the awareness of potential new partners and customers for them.” said Carolyn Helbling, Managing Director of the British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, organisers of this event.
IRF Founders Miguel Alvarez and Darryl von Däniken launched the Festival in 2010, with a successful 2nd edition taking place in June 2011 in Zurich. Over 30 global radio stations presented more than 50 specially commissioned radio shows live during the 10 day Festival this year. As part of the 2011 Festival, the United Kingdom was chosen as the guest country, celebrating its rich and pioneering broadcasting history with particular emphasis on the UK’s long standing pirate radio tradition.
“The creation and success of the IRF has been realized with help from both the Swiss and British communities, as well as many dedicated radio stations from around the globe. We accept this nomination with a thanks to our supporters,” adds Alvarez.
Winners will be announced at the British-Swiss Business Awards gala dinner, organised by the British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, at the Hotel Beau Rivage, Geneva on Wednesday, 30th November, 2011. Michael Rodd, Journalist and former presenter of BBC’s “Tomorrow’s World” programme will host the inaugural event.
“Great idea. Beautiful meetings with so many people from different countries, different radio cultures and with all the same passion. Really good!” Philippe Martin, Rouge FM, Lausanne, Switzerland
“The IRF initiative in this day and age of radio’s unknown future is crucial. I urge all radio and media professionals to support this ground breaking initiative; today and in the future.” Tony Prince, pioneering Radio Caroline radio jockey, UK
A special edition of the IRF will take place in London during the 2012 Olympics. More details concerning this prestigious invitation will be announced shortly.
